BLOODWOOD
LATIN: Brosimum paraense, Central and South America

Bloodwood has several meanings. It is the name of a dark red wood, from South America. It is also a common name for several unrelated groups of trees, for instance:
several trees from the genus Pterocarpus
Haematoxylum campechianum, a tree from Mexico
In Australia the name refers to either of two distinct groups of eucalypt: the genus Corymbia and Eucalyptus.
The name bloodwood for these trees stems from the dark red to brown kino that accumulates on wounds on the trunks.
Bloodwood is an exotic wood that is sometimes referred to as cardinal wood, for its obvious beautiful deep rose color. With age it's color does darken, but not significantly so it is a great wood to use in intarsia projects. The wood is very dense, with a tight fine, mostly linear grain.
